Materials & Methods
We specialize in working with next-generation materials, translating them into real-life products through precise technique and handcraft.
Our production process combines artisan skill with technical precision – adapted for the unique challenges and opportunities of next-generation materials. Every piece is produced in our German atelier by trained artisans using time-honored tools alongside modern technologies. We prioritize materials that are natural, circular, and innovative – always with the aim of minimizing plastic, always uncompromising in quality.
Pattern-Making & Prototyping
We develop custom patterns in-house – both physically and digitally. Clients receive full access to digital files, enabling external production if desired. We believe in open collaboration, not locking clients into closed systems.
Precision Cutting
Materials are cut either by hand with a scalpel or via our high-performance laser cutter. The laser allows mathematically optimized layouts to minimize waste and delivers clean, sealed edges – especially effective for delicate or fray-prone materials.
Reinforcement
To ensure durability and structure, we apply sustainable reinforcements adapted to each material’s needs. From ultra-soft mycelium foams to more rigid hemp fibers, we balance performance with environmental responsibility.
Assembling & Sewing
We use carefully selected, more sustainable glues and sewing threads to reduce plastic content wherever possible. Assembly is done with a combination of machine and hand-sewing. Hand-stitched details are used strategically – adding durability and a refined, crafted finish where it matters most.
Edge Painting & Finish
We combine machine-based and hand-painted edge techniques across different parts of a product. While both methods deliver a flawless, uniform result, hand-painting is used for areas where flexibility or detail requires it. The outcome: a seamless, durable edge finish that speaks to precision and care.
Branding
We offer heat embossing, foiling, and branded hardware sourced from traditional European manufactories. Every branding element is chosen to reflect your identity – never mass-produced, always meaningful.
Meet the Founder
We’re a close-knit team of designers, (master) bag makers, innovators, and project managers – united by a shared passion for craft and conscious design. From first sketch to final stitch, we bring vision and detail together.
Leading the team is Melina Bucher, designer, entrepreneur, and founder of both GROW The Studio and the luxury handbag label MELINA BUCHER. With a background in Business Administration, Melina combines entrepreneurial thinking with a profound understanding of aesthetics, material innovation, and branding.
Her vision is to build bridges between sustainability and high-end design – a mindset that drives both the atelier’s work and the evolution of next-generation products.
Since founding her namesake brand in 2019, Melina has positioned herself at the forefront of conscious luxury, winning multiple design and sustainability awards while building a fully vegan, biomaterial-based product line. With GROW the Studio, she expands this vision – offering other brands, material innovators, and institutions access to the same level of excellence, insight, and craft.
Under Melina’s direction, the studio has become a trusted partner for brands and innovators seeking to push boundaries in material usage, design responsibility, and craftsmanship. She is particularly passionate about closing the gap between material science and high-end design – an ethos that runs through every project, prototype, and product developed in the studio.

PETA Vegan Fashion Award
2022 // PETA Germany celebrated our 'Bailey' design as 'Most Innovative Piece' for proving that true luxury can be entirely animal-free, without sacrificing design or functionality.
German Sustainability Award
2023 // The jury of the German Sustainability Award, one of Europe's most prestigious awards for sustainable product design, honored our 'Bailey' design for its innovative use of MIRUM®.
PETA UK Fashion Awards
