The Challenge
For the DREAMER Bag, MELINA BUCHER set out to create something truly groundbreaking: a luxury handbag made entirely from biobased, plastic-free materials. The aim was to go beyond typical sustainability claims and prove that next-gen materials can meet the highest design and quality standards — both visually and functionally. This required not just creativity, but a deep understanding of how innovative materials behave in real-life applications.
Our Solution
This project involved all our expertise from start to finish. Beginning with material research, we sourced a range of promising biobased components — including MIRUM® for the outer material, BioPuff® for padding, a Forager® mycelium-based foam, and plastic-free stitching and reinforcement materials. Each material was carefully tested in our atelier to evaluate its look, feel, durability, and performance. We then developed several prototypes to refine the shape and construction before moving into final production. The result is a sculptural, minimalist handbag that reflects both technical innovation and high craftsmanship — completely vegan and with the highest biobased content. The DREAMER Bag was awarded the German Design Award 2025 and stands as a showcase for what’s possible when sustainability meets design excellence.
